2011

Abstract
This study aims at finding out the negative implications of Internet use on the psychological and social development among students of primary level students and whether it varies in respect of the duration and frequency of their Internet use. This study is based on relational survey model. The study group consists of students from fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades studying at Göztepe primary school located in Istanbul. A class from each grade has been picked out randomly and 135 students have been included in the study group. Internet Cognition Scale has been used to collect the data. It is developed by Davis which consists of 36 items assessing the Internet use in four sub-categories (decreased impulse control, loneliness/depression, distraction, social comfort). As a result of statistical analysis of eight research questions, significant correlations have been spotted in all. Consequently, increase in the duration and frequency of the Internet use has a negative effect on the psycho-social development of the students.
