Interface Usability of Integrated Development Environments.

2008

Abstract
The major aim of the software engineering is to increase the quality of the software tools and software itself. Measures of the quality have changed by the transition from technology-driven practices to human-centered practices. Integrated Development Environments which are widely used nowadays to develop software have to meet these new quality measures. Accordingly, quality of the interface design which is one of the software quality factors has to be stressed. In this context, this study aims to evaluate software development environments which are used by software engineers working in software development companies. In this research software development environments were evaluated by users in terms of new quality standards to state the usability problems clearly. And also importance of establishing usability labs to develop approaches to encounter these usability problems is emphasized. To set the usability problems, a usability test was conducted to software engineers. The results of the test were discussed deeply and main problems were specified. In addition, solutions to these problems are suggested.
